Mysterious Stoneworks on the Hodder Hi,
I've just been for a very pleasant little walk along the River Hodder (from Lower Hodder Bridge to the small stone bridge on the other side of Hodder Court).
On the bank of the River, near to the small stone bridge I came accross what appeared to be some basic latrine / bathing facilities. Basically 2 long walls, with about 22 evenly spaced recessed squares in each (I presume for clothing). The other wall is the same but with the addition of small partition walls between the recesses and what could have been a water gulley running the lenght through holes in each partition.
Close by there is more stonework in the form of what could be a couple of plunge pools. The river bank here has been made good with dressed stone and leads into a pool at the end of a natural weir via stone steps. This pool is highly oxygenated due to the turbulence caused by the weir and is like a natural jaccuzi !
Does anyone know who built this, why and when, was it somthing to do with Stonyhurst College ?
Thanks in anticipation
