Default WW2 Burnley incidents

I have just finished updating my WW2 British Homefront Pages to include more detailed information on the RAF decoy site at Crown Point (bottom of the page) and the two aircraft crashes in the Burnley area (bottom of the page). The V1 flying bomb (doodlebug) attack on the Manchester area on Christmas eve, 1944, is also covered on the latter page.

I remember standing at the front door of our house in Campbell Street in Cheapside, and watching the smoke and glare of the bombing of Manchester, over Hameldon Hill. Who could forget the drone of the planes, and the crunch of the falling bombs, even from that distance away.
The Barrage balloons over the power Station at Rishton, was always in the news, falling in flames after being struck by lightning. One drifted away before falling on the slopes of the hill. Memories keep flooding back.
