Searching Photo of Mecca Ballroom 1960's

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have, or know the whereabouts of a photograph of the Mecca Ballroom in the 1960's?

Theres one on this link when it was the Cats Whiskers. I don'tt think the exterior changed did it ?

Although it was owned by Mecca was it ever called Mecca Ballroom? I only ever recall it being called the Locarno before it became Cats Whiskers.

Probably always the Locarno, but it didn't roll off the tongue quite so easily. Everyone referred to is as the Mecca - I met my first serious girlfriend there - happy days!

I used to go down the "Mecca"sometimes it was on my own because there were always people i knew there, this was late sixty,s early seventy,s. I really looked forward to Fri nights Soul night ! Then Sat night it was always a goodnight out!

Used to think it was great, then in 1968 the Cavendish Club opened in Blackburn - now that was a truly GREAT place, pity it burned down in 1972.

Yes, there were some good artists on at the cavendish i used to love that place too!

i used to work at the Keirby and yes i went to the cats whiskers more times a week than i think i should have done

When did it change its name to the Cat's Whiskers? I always think of it as that.

I remember those plastic palm trees! Or was that Blackburn, because that was known as the Golden Palms wasn't it?

Wasnt this place Bolton Pally? I only went once or twice but the dance floor was sprung and had a palm tree.

Bolton Pally? Was that in Bolton? Cat's Whiskers was in Burnley and Golden Palms was in Blackburn. Maybe they all had palm trees!

I have never been to Blackburn Mecca, yes "the Pally "was in Bolton. I once went to Blackpool Mecca and there was agreat big fight with Mods and Rockers and there were lots of beer glasses being chucked around!
