International Artist residency at Higherford Mill, Barrowford

International pavement artist Julian Beever will be creating an exciting new piece of pavement art at Higherford Mill in Barrowford from Thursday 22 – Sunday 25 March.Julian, whose extraordinary 3-D chalk images have delighted viewers all over the UK and Europe, the USA and Australia has been brought over to the UK for this work by Mid Pennine Arts to help celebrate the end of their Land project. This is an exciting opportunity for members of the public to visit an international artist as he works and to view his extraordinary style of pavement drawing. It is open to the public between 10am and 4pm from Thursday to Sunday, whilst Julian is in residency so anyone can drop in and view the drawing as he is working, however the optimum time for viewing the completed artwork will be on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th as the work is completed.

To coincide with this unique experience, the artists based at the Mill will be opening their studios for the entire period and on the Sunday afternoon there will be additional activities for younger guests and light refreshments. There will also be a number of workshops and activities going on throughout the week including ceramics, glass tiles, mosaics and the Mystery Sock Trail.

This event has been organised to mark the end of Mid Pennine Arts', Land project. Over the past four years Land, the partner project to Panopticons, has involved local people of all ages in making a positive difference to their surroundings through activity led by professional artists. Land has involved leading international artists and companies as well as leaving a remarkable legacy. The Clitheroe Castle labyrinth, the Wayside Arts Trail in Burnley and the willow sculptures at Wycoller are just a few of the features which combine to form an enduring imprint of Land on East Lancashire's landscape.
