Manchester wins super casino

I thought they had more of a chance than Blackpool, as there is already money there. I'm not a gambler, but it will be interesting to see what effect it has on the area. What do you think?

I was gobsmacked when i heared it was to be Manchester ...I thought if it wasent going to be Blackpool it would have been London,they seem to get everthing...:ohwell:

It would have brought jobs to Blackpool though... but on the other hand we might have been spared a lot of trouble

well its dissapointing that blackpool didnt get it and as ive said on other forums it would have done a lot of good for us but thats life..

I was relieved that Blackpool didn't get it, although there is no doubt that it needs investment of some kind. I'd just rather it wasn't through gambling.

I think it's a shame Blackpool didn't get it, it could have helped revive the place. It needs a lot of work doing to it to attract more of the right kind of people.

I agree with that bit, I just don't think a casino is the answer.

It should have been Blackpool, it would seem so 'right' there. Few backhanders went on there I think.

I think the casino would have been the perfect answer to blackpools tired and weary town.

It would have created much needed jobs , brought life back into the town via means of tourism and given it yearly tourism and trade rather than seasonal , the list is endless ,blackpool like manchester has a lot of poverty and a regeneration project such as this would have given it a whole new lease of life ,

For those of you who may not be aware Sol Kirzner who has been awarded the franchise in Manchester over both the Dome and Blackpool also owns Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas along with Sun City in South Africa,money talks.

It would be no good sanctioning a location for one of these casinos where the prospective owners didn't want one though. As for money talking...I agree entirely, although I might not agree with it - that's how it is, we are talking about a multi million pound industry here where the 'stakes' are high.

The casinos aren't interested in regenerating deprived areas...they just want you to spend your money.

I'm dubious about how much regeneration it will provide for anyway, looking at other gambling centres around the world probably not much unless you include more crime, prostitution, drugs, violence, debt and suicide.

Only problem with Blackpool getting the super casino is that i would of put the smaller casino's out of business and adding to the unemployment of the town and the backlash would also hit the little gambling arcades along the front at least in Manchester its not as well known for its casino's and there's not so much of a hit on any other gambling spots of the city.

A couple of you know my feelings on this subject..........it's disgraceful.........a member of the casino advisory commitee is a season ticket holder at Manchester City........exactly where the casino is going to be built.

Call me a cynic but something happened in them chambers to arrive at a decision for Manchester's bid,and maybe not a regeneration decision.
