Hurricane aid concert A host of musicians including Green Day and Alicia Keys are to join forces to raise much-needed funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Country singer Tim McGraw and pianist Harry Connick Jr are among those who will take part in a special hour-long show to be aired on Friday night on US television.
A Concert for Hurricane Relief will also feature jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis - all three are natives of Louisiana, the focus of a desperate rescue operation.
Actor Leonardo Di Caprio will also appear on the show, which will air on NBC.
McGraw, who is a member of the American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet, appealed to fans to make donations.
"I am heartbroken by the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in my home state," he said.
"Like so many Americans I am watching the news reports with great sadness. But it's at times like these that each of us must work together to provide lifesaving aid to those in terrible need."
MTV is hosting its own hurricane relief concert on September 10. It will span three cities - New York, Los Angeles and Nashville - and be broadcast live.
Green Day, Usher and Alicia Keys are among the stars already signed up. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. |
