Default Shopkeepers Exhibition

Take a trip into Burnley to see the Shopkeepers exhibition at Mid Pennine Gallery. It's a series of photographs taken of shopfronts and shopkeepers in and around Pendle area. Even though the photos were taken a couple of months ago a lot of the shops have been demolished already. It's a fascinating 'slice of history' exhibition.

Entry to the gallery is FREE
Open 10am - 4pm, Wed - Sat
Disabled access and toilets

Have I missed the opening of this exhibition? They are usually ok for free beers ;)
Havent been down to the gallery downstairs for a while, as nothing has really inspired me to do so, but this sounds alright.

Yes, this is a fascinating exhibition and definitely worth a trip in before it closes on 24th June.

It's hoped that the project will be extended to other areas and photographs will be taken of other small shops which define the character of an area.

Just been down to check it out, the ones where the owners are stood outside their shop reminded me of the really old ones from years back, except that the modern owners looked more embarrassed than their proud forebears.

I noticed how they are all devoid of customers, not surprising having read the information on the walls about the supermarkets taking their business.

It did inspire me to want to take some similar photos of my own, I have thought about a similar theme before, but never got round to it.

Don't think I'll be able to afford giant A1/A2 prints of mine though - I wish!

Cheers for the 'heads up' Arty Lady!

Glad you liked it. The Jeff Nuttall one is going to be quite exciting - PS. not suitable for families, if you know what I mean.

The last time i went into the Gallery i noticed a print by Lencovitch(not sure if i have spelt it right)I had a portrait, sketch done by him of my daughter, which she now has. It was only a few pounds to have done but may be worth something now? He died a few years ago ,was a good painter based in the Barbican area of Plymouth. In the seventy,s He painted a mural, which was mainly of local women mostly nude which was daring at that time ,but a good advertising idea for him! He had the health inspectors after him for keeping a dead person ( a local tramp who wanted to be embarmed) on his premises! :jimbo:
