Default Singing Ringing Thing

A few days ago whilst I was without internet connection I heard on the local radio that there was a day/event/activity/celebration to "draw attention" to the Singing Ringing Tree. I found this rather ironic as I had hitherto been under the impression that the whole point of these Panopticons was to draw attention to the various towns where they were located.

However, putting that puzzle aside for a moment, I was interested to hear that Burnley seems to be taking its Panopticon to its bosom as it were and embracing its existence, unlike Blackburn which seems to have totally forgotten that it has one and allowed it to become vandalised and covered in graffiti last I saw, or Accrington which never wanted one anyway - or at least not any of those that were on offer. Apparently Burnley is making quite a feature of the SRT and has landscaped the area, got better paths and a picnic site and better parking facilities, not to mention a cairn, at least I think she meant a cairn. The interviewer didn't seem to understand the Burnley accent and reported that there was a 'kern' incorporating some mosaic or tilework by local schoolchildren based on a horror story called 'The Singing Ringing Tree'

Has anyone been up there recently to take photos of what it looks like now?

I went up this morning after not going for a while, I can confirm that the path is a lot better. I saw the cairn thing near the gate to the path, and some kind of plaque near the actual sculpture.

I went up to see if I could see any hot air balloons...no such luck - see Balloon festival post!

I'll have to see if we can manage to get up there some time when we come back off holiday and get some up to date photos.

We're going away on Sunday for 3 weeks and this week before we go is a bit hectic one way and another.

I took my son up to see it on the activity day and we did a bit of kite flying, which he loved. It does seem to be growing in popularity and the area is looking quite well looked after. I think it would look good if it were lit up at night, tho crown point by dark is not somewhere I would visit!

It seems to have changed colour since I saw it or is that just the light? Great photo.

Even when it's only a light breeze in town, it's likely to be windy enough at the top of Crown Point.

Take a fleece, even if the sun's shining.

I've tried looking for the SRT from the bus station. It's supposed to be visible from there isn't it? I think I must need new glasses though because I couldn't see it. That was a few weeks ago before I went on holiday. I must venture over again when I have time and try to get another look.
