Stormy weather across Lancashire and Merseyside has resulted in a funnel cloud forming in the sky.
The cloud, which is effectively a tornado which does not touch the ground, was spotted at about 1430 BST. If the funnel had touched down it would have caused severe damage, a Met Office spokesman said.

We had a mini one here a couple of years ago. There's a picture on here somewhere.

My daughter flew to France today from Liverpool airport. My husband and I were watching the planes take off. Hers left at about 1pm. We could see a nasty storm brewing across he estuaryas we watched the planes leave. When her plane had taken off we left and just as we reached the exit doors the rain was the most torrential I have ever seen in my life. We waited until it eased a little but even so we got drenched. Crossing the car park we were wading ankle deep in water! The forked lightening was spectacular.

Didn't actually see a tornado though but the road back home was like a river and the wash created by the vehicles was amazing. Wish I'd had a video camera.

I was at a music festival near Gisburn over the weekend which got turned into a mudbath after all the rain we've had! Only got caught out once...but I did get properly soaked!!

Still had a great time though!

Welcome back Sir! Seems like everyone saw the rain, but not the 'tornado'.

It lulls me into a false sense of security with blue skies and glorious sunshine so I set off to walk into town and then half way there dark grey clouds suddenly sweep across the sky and send down torrential rain. It's been sheer vertical and absolutely soaking. Apparently today we are due for more sun than rain.
