Over here in th great white north,we have had a recycling programme for a few years. We have two boxes, one for paper and the other one for empty tins, plastic bottles etc. Cardboard is packed together and tied in a bundle. They collect them every week the same day as the garbage which we put into big plastic bags(limit of two per week). You will find it easier if you have a lot of cans by stamping on them to flatten them. You can get a lot more in the bin.

And with pop bottles, put them between your legs & fold them over to flatten.
Oh if only, collections every week.. :D I'm going to give it a couple of weeks before I order another Purple wheelie bin. I have a great enthusiasm for recycling everything, problem is that it is neither shared by the rest of my household or my council :( |

I rang & asked about Cardboard (which incidentally is what makes up about 80% of our waste packaging) and was told that they are looking into doing it, but not for a while yet.
As for washing out tins etc, there is no need to, all the waste gets burnt off when oit goes through the system. Taking lids off pop bottles is only them not wanting to do it, if I take the lid off after squashing it, the bottle wants to expand again & not stay as flat. no ta. |

We had those blue boxes in Rosegrove last year when we moved here, they never got emptied, plus most of them went missing. The local kids put them in the canal. We had our bins emptied Thursday but awaiting the bags for paper.Thats this week.Ok it has made a difference in what i put in my bin,but i've got carrier bags all over with waste paper in them,a black bin liner full of husbands empty wine/lager cans.

If they are going to do this sort of thing they should have extra bins placed around the area so people can get rid of rubbish without all this hassel,it would cut down on fly tipping that's bound to start!

I rang up & asked for an extra large bin.
Having 5 in the house, even when we do recycle everytihng that the council will accept, we still fill a std bin. I was refused. Apparently you need to have 6 in the household to be able to have a bigger one. Well, we will see about that! |
