Default Liberal Democrats take Burnley

Well Burnley is now under control of the Lib Dems. What difference do you think it will make to the town, if any? It would be nice to have more Councillors use the site. Do we have any Councillors on Burnley Web at all for people to ask questions?

This overall council line-up is as follows:
  • Lib Dems: 23
  • Labour: 12
  • Conservatives: 6
  • BNP: 4

I'm hoping it will be a good thing that another party has overall control instead of being shared or labour - Who knows, things might start moving forward?

Please do not think that anything will change in Burnley? same old, same old, increased council tax does not mean improved services!

Building speed humps next to potholes is not a value for money council? what else do the council do with your council tax that is not value for money?

Warning? if due to hardship you cannot pay your council tax the council have the right to send in the baliffs and secure your assets also your council can send you to prison for non payment?

One way traffic in my book? they waste our money then send us to prison for not paying?

Couldn't agree more with that one! As if the roads aren't bad enough already without them adding more obstacles.

Another one is less bin collections but paying more council tax for the privilege!

One thing I would like to see would be policemen on the beat but don't think it will happen.

Not really into the Lib/dems, we don't have any in Hyndburn. The Leader of the L/D in Burnley Gordon Birtwistle, comes from Ossy, and was once a member of the Labour Party, many moons ago. I've always thought the best representation on any body for the Lib/dems is 3, thats perfect for their needs one to vote for, one to vote against, and the other to abstain

I hope to see some changes to the town. Some nice improvements on facilities in different areas of the town, such as community areas for people to get together in a safe, fun place and have a good old natter like in the old days. We need more community spirit, it needs to come back!

True, but the potholes and speed bumps are both the responsibility of the Labour-controlled County Council.

Only 15% of your Council Tax is retained in Burnley. The rest goes to Preston.

I think we should scrap Lancashire and have home rule for Burnley, perhaps in partnership with Pendle. Then residents could decide for ourselves whether we want road bumps, 20mph speed limits, speed cameras or what.

Well isnt it all down to money afterall-lack of it? Maybe more firms like big traders should repair roads. Tesco/ Boundary Mill. Lets have a super fast train from say Skipton to Burnley. Wouldnt that bring in more money for thes e traders?

I think you will find that places like Burnley were asked a few yers ago about becoming a Unitary Authority Darren, and the people turned it down, I know that was the case in Hyndburn. Yet LCC spent our money on propaganda promotting itself, which was more to do with these councillors keeping their noses in the trough, than looking after the real interests of the council tax payer

No, we've not been asked. It's about time we were. If people knew what goes with Lancashire County Council they'd want it closed down. We did look into forming a unitary authority last year. In the long-run the accountants reckon it will save a lot of money but initially there are additional costs, including that of a referendum. The government wouldn't fund any of it and we can't afford it out of Council Tax so it's a non-starter for now.

Yes, that's right. The government put a stop to it before the public even had a chance to have a say.
