| Its definetely not privately owned as planning permission has not bee publicly sought. A weather link on the enviroment pages on the council website take you to the home page. I wonder if the weather station will soon be giving data on the council website. |

Still not convinced? A weather station is usually placed in a high ground rural area and uses satellite technology, it doesnt even need antennae, just a satellite type dish. To get the location of the Gannow top mobile phone base station plus other nearby masts go the site below and enter waverley street then select 'waverley street Burnley' from the list and view the map to see the base-station on Gannow. Remember to Click on the Blue triangle on the map for the mast details. http://www.sitefinder.radio.gov.uk/ Hope you're not dissapointed that its not a weather station. Mobile phone masts emit microwave radiation which tails off over distance, I just hope anyone in the Gannow area realises the potential danger these masts pose. If youre interested further the major organisation in Burnley is called 'Together Against Masts' and you can use your search Engine (eg Google) to find out more about the dangers from these masts. |

| Nah, your on about something else there Brainlessstormer. That one is the happy eater roundabout, not the Gannow top one. I doubt very much if the Gt one has a mobile transmitter in it, it has no aerials on and most likely only contains the weather monitoring equipment with the sensors on the outside. Congrats on trying to wind us up though, but it was after 12:00 so don't work :D |

:stupid: Well Prattylad, It seems that most Burnley folk are unaware of the proliferation of the mobile phone masts and yes they take on many disguises so dont be FOOLED by their appearance. You mention "that one at the happy eater roundabout, not the Gannow top one. I know of the happy eater (or should I say happy easter) phone mast so where is this other mast? I dont live in Burnley so could you give me more details of the location and how you think that equipment is contained somehow and how you interpret 'monitoring equipment'? I wasnt inferring an April fool, take my word for it, theres no requirement for any other transmitters other than cell-phone masts... I'll try an get over ASAP to gannow top (roundabout?) and see whats goin on... |

| Certainly. Have a look at the map for the mast that you mentioned. Look further up to the next roundabout. That's Gannow top roundabout. And it's not worth a trip, it is most definately not capable of being a mast. As for my interpretation of "monitoring equipment", what would you expect the weather sensors to be connected to? You want to come look at it then it's your wasted petrol. |

Sure is a weather indicator, here's an image I took (sad I know) ....Note the xmas trees behind the post :santa: Qu. Who decides whether to grit the roads or not? I reckon that the management team within the Environmental Services Division of Burnley Council make these decisions based upon weather forecasts supplied by the Met Office. These forecasts are generated with the assistance of roadside weather stations located around town. They can also get live data from the weather stations at any time to assist with their decision-making. I nearly peed miself laffin when I eventually found it, I'm going to place a notice on it cos theres nothing written on the post (I'll probably put somet like "Windy Millers Place, leave mail at NO. 33") Good 1 Matt  |

| Well, you looked eh. Funily enough so did I, went right up to it. I was coming in this morning to retract my previous statements. Because those arms contain what looks like a loop aerial on one end & some other thing on the other. which could have been another aerial. What say you, you appear to know more about them then, what are those devices? |

| I appreciate your concern Brainstormer but I'm starting a meteorology course in september and I should know what weather equipment looks like and that pole is full of the stuff. My guess is that this will be used on the new information boards to be placed around Burnley and the information from this equipment could be put on those, i.e. temperature, humidity, dew point, wind speed, wind direction, wind chill etc. |

| Okidoki. I rang the council & asked them. It is all for ice prediction etc so that they can monitor the ice/weather levels. The nearest other one is on the A56. So it's nothing to be concerned with. Just don't stand too close to it if you have a pacemaker ;) |
