Question My Pet Needs Help

This is very hurtful to me, but it needs to be done.

I have to find my dog a loving home as my wife is pregnant & her midwife has advised her to 'get rid of' our dog!

Ive got no idea why shes said that as our dog is a very well trained & behaved animal.

Anyway does anyone know anywhere that takes in dogs?

NOT A KENNEL!!!

I want her going to a loving home where she can be cared for & loved

Why not get a second opinion from another midwife or even your doctor. Sound like a personal preference to me. Dogs and kids go well together on the whole. I have had dogs through both my daughters upbringings.

Do not take this at face value, ask others.

I think i would ask the local vet if they could help, maybe they might know someone who has lost their dog recently . This way they might know of a good home for your dog, to someone who could look after it well. A similar thing happened to my daughter and although she was upset at giving up the dog, the couple who gave him a home were just so pleased to get what they were looking for. So everything turned out well!

What breed of dog is it? Is it a dog or a bitch?

I disagree, I think she is instilling you with her personal prefereances, which she has no right to do.

If you are expecting a boy, think of the fun the two will have. When I had my first child my mother worried about our rather jealous dog, in fact he guarded my daughter.

I urge you to get a second opinion.

Did the midwife give a reason why she wanted you to re-home your dog? Sorry i have just gone back and read what you said earlier. Maybe she has something against the breed! We have some friends who live abroad who have pit bull/ staffordshire male dogs and i would not like my grandchildren near them. So they will never stay with them.

Then keep her. I do think you are over reacting to someone's dislike of dogs.

Our first dog was 5 when my brother was born, she was a little terrier cross between a border terrier and a lakeland terrier. Absolutly adored my brother and would cry to get my mum's attention when he stirred. She was like another mummy to him! No jealousy on her part.
Cant think why your midwife would advise you and your wife to get rid of your dog, why dont you ask her reasons when your wife sees her next?

We had a dog, a cross between a Jack Russell and a collie, before my eldest daughter was born. At no time was it ever suggested that we get rid of the dog. He loved the girls and they loved him. They were heartbroken when he died. He was family.

I've got a patterdale terrier ans it was never mentioned that I needed to get rid of him when I was pregnant. I cant understand your midwife's concerns, unless its a dangerous breed.

i've always had dogs and cats and my 4 kids have grown up with them.
my baby adores our dogs she lays down with them and plays with them and i trust my dogs completely your midwife is very very wrong she had no right to tell you and your wife what to do in your personal life
