Default Clear up our Streets

A new initiative has been launched by English Heritage to clear up the streets in our towns and cities. Burnley Borough Council has joined with other agencies to improve the state of our streets and is holding up Hammerton Street as an example of what can be achieved.
I am sure we would all like to see an end to cracked and sunken pavements in the town as well as the bollards that seem to appear overnight in many places.
Do you think it will really happen or is it a public relations exercise? When you get away from the town centre there is a massive backlog of broken pavements and litter in back streets and there doesn't seem to be the staff to deal with the everyday jobs never mind improvements.

PR exercise.

If they have not got the cash to be able to fund recycling, then how are they going to be able to afford cleaning up the mess?

If people got fined for throwing rubblsh on the pavement they could use this money to employ more people to keep the streets clean. Do you ever hear of anyone being fined for dropping litter on the street? I have'nt.

Litter Louts get on my nerves
I blame the parents for letting em get away with it
Bring back The Stocks - them, muggers and burgalers - every Saturday lunch in the Town Square. Buy your rotten fruit/veg at a bargain price (helps the small shop keeper - inwards investment) and lob it at the buggers. we would also get the chance to see who they are and Shame them.
Then, a pie and a pint and down t'Turf
.
And Jaceyboy, go and get yer own Aviator ya little sod pot

I cant understand why they got rid of street cleaners in the first place...i remember when i was a child growing up in burnley wood that everyone knew Arthur the street cleaner with his trolley n dustbin...we as kids didnt drop litter because we respected Arthur and helped him...if they were to get street cleaners back on the streets it would teach kids as it did me to look after the place we live in. As ive said before my sons only 2 and wouldnt dream of throwing anything on the floor and gets upset if anyone else does!! Hes learning from me as i learned as a child from Arthur...wonder what happened to him??

You only see them in the town centre now and I agree Delly they were a good example to set for the children as far as litter went.
I know all the plans are for the town centre, but I only go there once a week,I have to live in my street the rest of the time. So that is where I would like to see an improvement, not show places in the town cetre.

Complain to your local counceller.

They did promise to clean our streets once a fortnight I recall.

Do they clean your street once a fortnight then? It's a waste of time and effort complaining to councillors, they say they will do something and nothing happens or you are told there is no money.
