Burnley has as many of you will be aware designated as a top 1% unemployment hotspot, So I thought I'd share my views on this subject with you, and see what you all glean from the info.
I am registered disabled and its quiet frankly driving me up the wall. So rather than go back onto job seekers I thought Hell No!! lets start a business. So I called into the jobcenter and was told flatty that there was no help available to disabled people who want to work. So dejected I came home and thought this can not be right, so went to look at the Job Center website, not only is there monies available but support too. So I phoned the job center and made an appointment... All plain sailing from here I here you shout. "No not quiet" firstly the desk clerk had never heard of the person I was looking for (turns out he's on placement) then I get to see the person I require, who gives me the equivalent of a small amazonian rain forest in forms and contacts that "MIGHT BE USEFUL" erm mostly no! They did however direct me to East Lancashire into employment, which was useful and Burnley Enterprise trust. The only problem with both of these organizations is that whilst you have to get to them (and the reimbursement doesn't cover half the cost) you then have to have access to things like printers, internet etc. So I am still on my path of setting up my own business, I've looked at premises now, and now I have to find staff, oh lordy, its dealing with the job center again! Take my advice stay on the sick, its far easier. No really don't for without local people starting businesses, then where will we be in ten years time? Still discussing the Central Station and the new Oval Center? Oh dear. Don't let me get you down, if anyone wants help and advice that I may be able to offer please give me a shout Martin |

I am shocked at the way you have been treated. The jobcentre are supposed to help people with disabilities to get back into work and if you feel that you have been unfairly treated i would complain.
I hope all goes well with you new venture |

I'm probably going to shoot myself in the foot now because no doubt somebody on here will work for the jobcentre but ... my last experience of the jobcentre aprrox 5 years ago made me think that most of the staff now were just benefits agency staff and did nothing to help you find work. I even even heard one tell somebody they don't find people jobs they have to look on the boards.

The JobcentrePlus are as much use as a chocolate fire guard. and it's true I find them unhelpful, I have had trouble filling out forms of sorts in the past, will they help, no they won't, I just find they seemed stressed and in a flap with a bad attitude.
Thank goodness for the CAB as I'd have been losing out on what I was otherwise entitled to, plus they don't know what you're entitled to if you're entitled to anything else to boot. In a word; USELESS and thats putting it politely for on here. |
