A serial football hooligan who ran on the pitch to confront soccer star Robbie Savage has been jailed for five months.

Jobless Michael Lewis was already serving a three-year ban from every football stadium in England and Wales before Sunday's FA Cup tie between Blackburn and Burnley.


The 42-year-old Burnley fan invaded the pitch and headed straight for Rovers star Savage.

He was seen by millions of TV viewers offering to fight the Welsh international, Burnley Magistrates' Court heard.

Lewis, who has 24 previous convictions including for football-related incidents at Millwall, Blackpool and Wolverhampton, was warned off by players from both sides who protected Savage.

He then ran to the touchline and assaulted two officers as they arrested him.

Lewis, from Nelson, Lancs, pleaded guilty to breaching the football banning order, encroaching on the football pitch, using threatening and abusive behaviour towards Savage and assaulting two police officers.

He was jailed for five months and given another football banning order for 10 years.

Lewis was already serving a ban of three years from Wolverhampton magistrates in December 2002 for being drunk at a match and obstructing police officers.

Last March he breached the order by going to Burnley's game at Millwall and was jailed for 28 days.

He also invaded the pitch at Blackpool in 1992 and breached an exclusion order at Burnley in 1990. And he had been jailed for 18 months for assault in 1989.

should of got 5 year it happened right in front of where i sat, when it was all over the policewoman put her hat on and winked at us, there was a dickhead in the circ yesterday to, had a good day no trouble and he just picked his glass up and launched it into the crowd, first time in twelve months we've had any violence in the place and one pillock ruins our reputation, half the regulars missing tonight, hope its just the weather and they come back

You get them all over,in Blackpool you can have a full pub empty in five minutes if you get nutters in! It's just sad some people seem hell bent on making trouble. If I was in charge any known trouble maker would have to report to the police 2hrs before a game and stay til 2hrs after. I just hope Burnley fc don't get a big fine cos we don't have alot of cash and we can well do without these kind of FANS!

The club shouldn't get a fine......rock steady security should,they let him slip into the ground so it is down to them.

Becky used to work for rock steady as a vip guard and she says that all the gates are manned at all times even when they open the gates 10-15 mins before the game finishes,and she also said that there would of been police on the gate as well.

It looks to me that security was very much lapsing towards the end of the game,when that is when they should of been concentrating more.
