Default Willow sculpture on M65

Mid Pennine Arts have commissioned Serena de la Hey to produce a willow man 'Land Giant' which has now been positioned on the M65 - in between j11 and j12.

Go and take a look for yourself. It's about 18ft high and has two posts next to it - over the coming years the planting around the posts will grow up the posts until it looks as though the man is immerging from the forest.

It all comes down to what money is allocated for.

Looked at in terms of pure economics spending money is a good thing because it gets money circulating and increases other people's buying power, keeps people in work, which can lead to more people being able to help people.

hmm perhaps...id have to agree if that was the case. did you watch that thing on tv the other day, it showed a few members of a tribe who where brought over to england to see a different way of life. And they went round manchester, they saw the people sleeping on the streets and asked why they wherent being helped! Apparantly back in their native villiage if someone didnt have a house then the rest of the villiage HELPS them build a house!!!!! they where appaled that we treat people the way we do when we actually have the money to be able to do something about it.

I know what you mean Shiny Gem, does seem to be one of the few growth industries round here. I've nothing against these sculptures as it goes, I just wish money would get put into more pressing matters like encouraging industry back to the area.

I think people in this country used to have that same sort of attitude a few generations ago but now it seems like most people are very self centred.

Fortunately not everyone, but I do agree that in a civilised country we do not give the impression of civilisation when it comes to caring for those less fortunate.
