A 27-year-old man has been charged in connection with the rape and abduction of an 11-year-old girl in Lancashire.
Police were alerted on Thursday night after a member of the public witnessed the attack on Coal Pit Lane in Colne and raised the alarm at about 2100 BST. Justin Widdop, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of rape and an additional count of kidnap and false imprisonment. He is due to appear before magistrates at Burnley on Monday. Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with information about the incident to contact them. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/l...re/6233144.stm

Well, I have always sworn, if anything had happened to my girls, there would be true justice done, no matter how long I had to wait.
Well done to the passerby.

If the girl was dressed in such a way, then the parents deserve no respect. I simply loath seeing small girls dressed in adult type cloths. This in NO WAY supports the ridiculously insensitive sentence.

the girl had been in care since the age of 4.......and according to the defendent was 'precocious'......some stories say that she offered him consensual sex...but that is what he says.....he also said that she was wearing a frilly bra and a thong......and he thought she was 16.....but even if she was 16 does that give him the right to rape her?
This same judge in another case of paedophilia, suggested that the perpetrator bought his victim a bike by way of compensation. What planet do these judiciary live on? and how do they think these lenient sentences make them look? |

There's more than meets they eye in this case of the 10 year old who looked 16. None of us have seen her so we don't know how old she looked but even the prosecution admitted she looks 16.
The defendant claims she initiated sex so that wouldn't make it rape. Without knowing all the details it's impossible to judge but I'm just looking at it from the point of view of a guy who meets a girl who appears to be at least 16 and she gives him the come on and they have sex. Up to that point he believes he's had consensual sex with a girl of legal age. Suddenly he finds himself in the position of having had sex with a 10 year old who is then claiming she was raped.

While we have no proof of what she looks like, it still does not excuse the men who abused this girl. And the judge made it sound like she was the author of her own fate. And don't all paedophiles cite the fact that the child 'wanted it'........meaning sex.
The judge even called the child a young woman....at 10 years of age, how can you be a young woman? This is the same judge who in another case, suggested that the perpetrator buy his victim a new bike as some sort of compensation. Doesn't he realise that these children are scarred forever by the actions of the men involved? That they may never learn to form normal relationships? I wonder if this judge is married and has children. I wonder if the judge had been female, would the sentence have been the same. This 10 year old is a vulnerable child......even if she looks older, she has been in care since the age of 4 and has no-one to stand her corner. The social team who are supposed to be looking after her interests should be charged with negligence and child abuse by association. Children should be protected from men like these, men who use children for their sexual gratification regardless of what common sense might tell them. In the news story that I read there was nothing about the prosecution agreeing that the girl looked 16...just that she looked older than 10. |

The real abuse of this child has taken place long before this. She claimed to be sexually active and to have had previous experience. How on earth did it get to that stage? The so called 'care' she is in seems to be distinctly lacking in care.
From what I have read the man did not set out to look for a child to abuse. That is what makes him not a paedophile in my view. He allegedly believed he was having consensual intercourse with someone above the age of consent.

I agree with you on the abuse Willow...the Social Team who were responsible for this appalling case should be sacked and jailed.....though I don't suppose they will get more than a slap on the wrist.
As far as the consensual sex goes.......I have not read anywhere that the child (for that is what she is) had agreed to sexual contact.....in fact in the report that I read there was nothing about any previous sexual activity. And whether the men were out looking for a child to abuse is not the point.....one man took advantage of her and then took her to a mate who also used her for sexual gratification.......they were both led by that thing in their pants pocket......and had no thought for the girl/child. This sentence sends out all the wrong messages to men who like their sexual partners young. It says if she looks 16 it is Ok because you can always say she was asking for it.....and that you THOUGHT she was old enough to consent. |
