Sweetpea is on a distinguished road
Default Panorama Tomorrow (Mon)

White Fight:

A report from a town in northern England where white and Muslim Asian communities are becoming increasingly segregated.

I am guessing this town may be Burnley.

Don't you sometimes feel that media coverage like this adds fuel to the fire?

Col.Kurtz will become famous soon enough

I was under the impression that the media usually suppress negative stories involving muslims in order not to give people an excuse to kick-off. Either that or they've just been ignoring what is going on.

I hope it doesn't show Blackburn as being racially segregated as I've always found it to be quite 'mixy'.

Heres the link http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programme...ma/6631541.stm

Can't help but think that they are going to open a big can of worms here. Is it just conincedence that Jack Staw is the MP for Blackburn, and the recent controversy of the muslim viel? Or am I reading too much into it?

Neal is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: Panorama Tomorrow (Mon)

Was a good show, but at the end about the developer; They built the houses in a Muslim area with a Turkish theme to attract all sides of the community? Rubbish, they targeted those who live in that area to make the money....

Yes, I agree. Silly very silly. Anyhow, good programme, but so, so sad. I live in an area now, were I see about one asian a week. But it won't be long, Peterbrough, just 20 miles down the road in full of Muslims.

Whereabouts do you live Sweetpea? We almost moved down there once. Friends of ours used to live near Farcet Fen now live in March. (apologies for thread wander)

I didn't see the program (yet) but read the article and it seemed like it was trying to create problems where none actually exist, pointing out that people are separated by cultural differences and by faith. So what?People can have different religions and different cultural backgrounds and interests but still get along with each other can't they? I have friends of different religions and we are still friends. I have other friends of different cultural backgrounds and we like to maintain our cultural heritage like my kids doing their Irish dancing but we still get on with people who aren't of Irish origin and who hate ceilis.

I was mislead by the title Sweetpea posted, (actually White Flight), I thought the programme would be about the disaffected asian youth who cause trouble, deal drugs and groom underage white girls for sex, that you don't hear much about in the media.

As for the turkish-themed decor of those houses I really don't know what they were thinking?
