Well what can I say, the firework display was excellent. Think it lasted for about 10 minutes and some money was spent on them.

Excellent work whoever organised them, fantastic.

No fireworks here, just Lisa Lusardi (sp?), some bird off ITV Westcountry and Spongebob Squarepants but the new shopping centre looks even more impressive now.

I wonder why they aren't having a Christmas tree this year?

the money normally spent on the tree has gone on decorations instead, and very nice decorations they are this year too.

I like the blue lights in the tunnel near argos, it's usually really dingy-looking in there. They should keep them in there all year round....or just get some brighter lights?

Well it was in the Sun newspaper yesterday stating that Burnley has a little shed with some cheap Jesus figures on show and no tree as the anti-vandal box "Is too expensive".

Yet in Dubai, a Muslim state, at the airport there is a nice Christmas area and in one large shopping centre, the Christmas decorations are stunning!

Weird World isn't it?

Do any of you actually realise just how expensive these lights are not only to put up but to wire up and to buy? do yopu realise how much a tree costs big enough for a town centre?
I do and its not cheap, an accross the road frame costs on average a thousand pound just for the frame about 400 to put it up and take it down, then theres the wires to buy and have put up and strain tested, theres the electrics to be installed and tested. Then theres maintenance.
501.50 for a set of cheap jesus figures, mary, joseph, jesus, angel, three wise men, shepardd, drummer boy, ox, camel, donkey, star. + vat if your not council. plus the shed, plus acrylic cover, plus electric supply, quit a few electrical conections there.
blue led lights might last longer, although if they freeze they can crack, and they may be cheaper to run but they cost 3 n half times as much as normal lights.
Typical retail for 5 mts of icicle lights 10 quid tpical led price 35 quid.

I do a large private display it covers about over 200 yards I put thousands of pounds worth of my lights up in my time. Luckily this year the pub raised the 200 pound insurance for the public liabilty cover. Everythinghas to be done by the book, I had to get permisions of the property owners, comply with health and safety, method statements etc . I have to cone areas off and put barriers up.
But just one comment of joy from a little smiling face makes it all worth it.
