indian quake and local charity

does anyone know if any local charities are collecting things other than money? IE..CLOTHES, BLANKETS,MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. Im sure many of us would like to donate things as well as money.

The Red Cross has said they only want money not goods. It may be that the local mosques are collecting medicines and clothing as in other towns.

I too so that they only wanted money, it's very heartening to see how the british people have rallied round, we have done a lot as a nation, much more than the u.s.a i think.

no one seams to want clothes ,but i dare say the oxfam shop will take them

The best thing you can give is money,the food clothes water etc can be got near the effected areas, by the best people that know whats needed the agencies.It sounds harsh but thats the bottom line.

I should imagine that all charity shops will be taking all items other than money. I am going down town 2mara, if i find out anything i will let you know.

Ditto about giving money.

Most of these things are made in or nearer the countries that were affected so it will cost more to ship them out there than it will to buy them from neighbouring countries.

However, that said if you donate them to a charity, then that should relieve the charities local burden slightly allowing them to spend more overseas than locally perhaps?

It appears that we now have promised over £100m.

I'm sure that this should suffice for now to enable immediate relief to be given as well as longer term aid.

im not sure about what charities are collecting other than money but, my school, Gawthorpe, is doing its own fund raising for the victims of the tsunami! A great idea by the school! :yelrotflm

got a couple of c,ds ,and some tapes yesterday ,from the cleveleys oxfam shop ,they had stacks of them and they were selling very well ,along with video,s and really good quality books ,
