DETECTIVES in Lancashire are appealing for help in tracing a man who they believe was involved in a number of “boiler” burglaries.
Christopher BYRNE (30), of Barrack Street, Manchester is wanted for two offences of burglary at plumber’s merchants in Burnley and Chorley on Tuesday 29 November 2005. The two merchants were The Plumb Centre, Westgate Trading Centre, Burnley and the Plumbase in Chorley.
Since February 2005 there have been over 150 burglaries at plumber’s merchants across the North of England. The property stolen each time was condensing central heating boilers. The value of the loss in boilers alone is now almost £1.5million.
Officers from Lancashire Constabulary’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit have been working closely with detectives from Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Staffordshire police in a regional operation to identify those involved in these very specific thefts.
Detective Sergeant Dave Rimmer said: "We are keen to trace Mr BYRNE as soon as possible as we believe he has been involved in a number of high value thefts. It is not just the cost of the stolen property that impacts on the owners of the plumber’s merchants but they also face the costs which is in excess of £1 million to repair their premises and damage to security systems."
One man has already been convicted in connection with the burglaries. He is Jordan Peeks, aged 24 who also hails from the Manchester area.
