Our dustbins are emptied on a Monday, so out went the bin today full to overflowing with all the Christmas wrappings etc. No sound of a lorry which you usually hear from 7am onwards made me ask a neighbour if it was the snow that had prevented them coming round. To my dismay I was asked if I had not had a leafelet attatched to my bin last Monday as they don't intend coming round this area until the 11th of January How much more rubbish are we going to have in another two weeks on top of all the Christmas refuse? and for heavens sake where are we going to store it for all that length of time? Do they not know there are people who don't have transport to take it to the tip or are physically able to do so?What a time of year to decide on this action, they couldn't have chosen a worst time and a time that would annoy people more. Are we to get a reduction in our community charge because they haven't provided a service we have already paid for? Would you pay the milkman or the window cleaner if they didn't leave milk or clean your windows? Burnley Council. you have gone too far. This is your daftest idea yet!

One week between Christmas and New Year may be understandable and I don't begrudge the men the time off. But we are talking about a three week period here not just one week. As far as I understand a contract is a legal document. Both sides read and agree all the clauses before signing, therefore either the Borough Council have agreed to this clause leaving residents with no dustbin emptying for three weeks, or Biffa are breaking the terms of the contract and the council should take action against them.

Having checked with neighbours, only one out of twenty houses received the information leaflet about the collections. It is not going to encourage support for the plans to only empty the dustbins once every two weeks in the New Year to make people recycle when they see the amount of rubbish that will have accumulated by the 11th of January.

There just inept, and only care about squabbling between themselves in the council chamber and pondering over whether someones a nazi or not. How about working together for the good of the town and get things sorted!

At the end of the day, they're in charge, so the buck stops there. If Biffa refuse to take away our refuse for a week, then it's up to Burnley Council to make alternative arrangements. Let's face it, Christmas time probably generates more rubbish than at any other time of year, to have a break in the disposing of all this extra waste at this particular time of year is just irresponsible. A while ago, I recieved a letter telling me that I wasn't allowed to put out bin bags full of rubbish along with my wheelie bin. I was threatened with a fine if I did so again. I rang them up and asked what I was to do with the extra rubbish that didn't fit in my dustbin. They told me to store it in my back yard until the next collection. I told them that by that time I would have twice as much extra waste as my family somehow generates more rubbish each week than what fits into my dustbin, so the pile of rubbish would only get bigger and bigger. I asked them what the rules and regulations were to run a rubbish dump and did my yard fit all the criteria? Also, what were the wages involved in running a rubbish dump for Burnley Council and where could I pick mine up? They told me to carry on leaving the bin bags outside. ![]() |
