Not a bad idea Quazi, as from today the Freedom of Information act is in force and if requested in writing, they have to supply you with the information. Of course they supply you with a breakdown of where the money goes already, but it is only what goes to the County Council and the Police and what is left for the Borough Council. Would anticipate that they have some cover for themselves in the small print which would prevent our claiming money back for the loss of service.

Small print on what? I haven't signed any contract with Burnley Council, especially one that says they are allowed to suspend basic sanitary services for three weeks and still expect to get paid for it.
It's our statutory right that if we pay for a service and that service is not provided, then a full refund is required by law. There's no way they can weedle out of it.

how long do we have to wait for the bins to be emptied in the piccadilly area?

I thought this was why we have had so much tax increase to pay for these wages?

Its all crap and I'd take anything the mayor says with a pinch of salt, all year its been a load of argy bargy between labour and the lib dems, the lib dem mayor has had her good kicking of labour council leader caddy in his nads by complaining about the rubbish but if it was Birtwistle running the council, would it be any different? Would the mayor be moaning or just blaming the labour council before them?

Its a farce and I think we should get this accountant stuff on the road. It's going to be difficult because we have no say in the council and will be fun to see all the councillors bending over backwards to get our votes in doing what WE want to get votes, and if they mess it up, they won't be getting votes in 2006 when we have the next borough council elections.

What about standing for the council as an Independant Robert? Party Politics are the reason for most of the trouble and the decisions that are made in the council chamber. We should restart the Ratepayers group or maybe we would have to call them the Community Charge group.

No point standing on your own though, we need some sort of majority over that bunch of muppets in council. Only if a group of us got elected could we get somewhere. Wasn't too impressed with the current independant group when they backed this fortnightly collection scheme.

Well despite the assurances that it wouldn't happen again, we had no collection again today

I'm not very bright but it would make sence to start collecting the rubbish first from the houses that have been left out the longest eg if they stopped thursday then start off now by doing fridays round,I ca'nt believe any council can get away with this.

I should imagine that anyone who takes on Burnley Council and makes them publicly look silly would have quite a good chance as an independant.

Reading the letters column in the Burnley Express, Harry Brooks has been taking them on for years but gets nowhere. He did it as an independant councillor for a few years, but when it came to voting in the chamber he lost every time as the larger parties out voted him.
The response from a lot of people seem to have been fly tipping and the council will have that to clear up when they get their act together. Saw bonfires of paper etc in an open space near here, heaven knows where it will have blown to with the high winds we are having at the moment.

My bins seem to have been emptied as normal.
Even on NY eve, I had to run out with some bags to chuck into the bag of the wagon as I had forgot to put the bin out Thursday eve.

We got no leaflet.
I am finding that a single wheelie bin is not big enough though.

Our bins, in the Piccadilly area, have just been emptied today, and it didn't come too soon! Our bins have been overflowing during the Christmas period! With the cats opening the bags the wind has blown rubbish all over the backstreet!
