Yorkshire ripper in Burnley
I was staying with relatives in Burnley in the late seventies, going an early morning walk through Towneley! the time was around eight. Looby loo was a toddler in a push chair and it was a nice summer morning. Having knowledge of the woods there i thought nothing of walking through them, so from the top end of Tod Rd i procceeded down, I was five minutes into the woods and this guy came from nowhere. He was tall , white and thin with a bushy afro and slimfit jazzy shirt. He was about a foot away from me, i knew he wasnt a local as i am from that area. He said "allright", and walked on. I thought it was odd at the time! as he had not come from any path?he then must of left from the top park gates! I walked on to the ice house and spoke to my father in lawwho was playing golf at the time. Then thought no more of it again until---Peter Sutcilffe was arrested and known to go to a cafe and stop off in Burnley . Did i have an encounter with the Yorkshire Ripper? i believe i did!and my skin creeps at the thoughts of it! Being reminded of it by the programme last night about the Ripper brought this story back to me!
