Exclamation Dangerous Playgrounds... skip, skip... OUCH!

Promising the kids a trip to Carr Road boating lake, at the bottom of Carr Road, Nelson to feed the many greedy ducks, geese and birds on the boating lake which now has no boats or did it ever? (maybe another thread here!). Off we set off........... Within a short time down the bypass from Burnley we arrived. "Yeah!" The kids shouted..... "Can we go on that park over there Dad?" With me being a BIG softie and all that I replied "Course you can guys". We turned on to the car park and made are way across Carr Road towards the park which is set back from the road within a small enclosure fronted by shrubs and bushes, Hmmm, the saftey gate was hanging off its hinges and had to be dragged open so that we could gain entrance........ "WOW!" the kids went running for joy.........

"STOP!" I shouted, the park was in ruins, a total shambolic state that was in need of extensive repair or demolition. I couldn't believe the state of it's neglect, surely a danger and surely shouldn't be accessed by children, no matter how old. This park should have saftey barriers around it to keep the public out. I took two further close-up shots of two of the main dangers:

Attachment 485 and here too!

Why are our parks so fastly disapearing and getting further affield to reach, especially for children. There are many of communities without such leisure equipment which is a shame, I'll try and report this park so that no accident will happen to anyone, no matter how old.:faint:

Couldn't agree more with you Neal, I have emailed the parks department for Pendle Borough Council, hopefully they might get back in touch with an explanation for its state, if so i will post their comments.

Hello LM!! Glad to see you back on BW!!
That park looks a right dump!!:hairraising:
Over here in Cleveleys they have just spent a lot of money doing up the playground near to us!! At one time the playground had nothing in it! I think it was due to the claims are us brigade! and anything that was deemed to be dangerous and could kill! like "Swings!!" was taken out!
I think kids need a place to play thats safe! but also I think it's sad that parks/playgrounds tend to atract older kids and so they get vandals/drug users etc! also it seems if a kid falls and hurts it's self it's a law suit these days!
I must be getting old LM! because when I was a kid if you fell off a slide or what ever, and hit the concrete, you got told "don't do it again!!" now it's "lets sue the burgers for what we can get!!" Kids today seem to be a right bunch of big girls blouse's!!
rant over!!

Thanks for that Wayneyboy, Its good to be back on BW, so here's a drinkypoo for ya: :pint:

Your probably right it's probably the claim to gain factor that made our parks diminish. Where have all those good (but dangerous) playground rides gone? Remember the Umbrella roundabout, the swing beam, the rocking horse or boat!

With abit of luck Pendle Council may want to post a reply here on this thread as Ive sent them its link via email.

I'll check the park again soon to see if anythings changed............ dont hold your breath though!!!:england:
