Bogus burglar targets elderly lady

The incident happened just after 8pm yesterday when a man entered the home of an 84-year-old lady on Ighten Road, Burnley. He distracted the lady and stole two purses from her living room.

Police are appealing for help in tracing the man who is described as a tall white male, aged in his 20’s. He was wearing green hooded top and was carrying a bag.

Detective Inspector Sam Birtwell said: “This was a callous crime on an vulnerable and defenceless old lady, who as a result of the incident became very distressed before being admitted to Burnley General Hospital. She is now on the Coronary Care Unit and is described as being poorly.

“We really need members of the public to help us trace this man before he strikes again. I urge anyone who has any information about this man to come forward to the police as soon as possible.
