| I moved up here about 5 years ago as it is near where me and my husband work. It's never been he best place to live but I can't believe the mess and anti social behaviour thats going on now. You only have to walk up there to see dog dirt, rubbish (both on pavements and in private gardens), smashed windows, graffiti. It is disgusting ! Why don't people have the decency to pick grot out of their own gardens ? OK, they won't have thrown it there themselves but so what - have some respect for your area and your own property ! The more rubbish that accumulates the more 'normal' it becomes so perpetuating the cycle of people throwing crisp bags on the floor and residents just walking over them moaning 'well I didn't do it !' As you can guess I am cross about this. I have a young daughter and what example is it to her generation. We teach her not to trash the town so she can't understand why so many other people don't care. And what's going on with the window smashing thing ? Seems someone is targeting houses with an air rifle/pellet gun. Anyone have any idea who is responsible ? |

| I think that if you do live in Briercliffe/Harle Syke, then its about time you take some pride in your local area and stop bad mouthing it. If you see some rubbish, then pick it up don't expect somebody else to do it ![]() and i have lived in harle syke all my life and it is by far one of the best places to live in pendle and the surrounding area, youths are not such a big problem and i have seen no problem with graffiti or smashed windows. |

As for the rubbish, well I'm sure Judddd clears her own but from the sound of it would just like it better if everyone else would do the same. She can't go trespassing in other people's gardens to clear up the messes there. I can relate to it a bit because quite a bit of rubbish seems to find its way into our garden. I clear it out but there's still some down a back alleyway which is quite a way from here and I don't see why the council can't clear that lot, most of it seems to be what the bin men drop anyway.

That said there is nothing that I can see to stop these petrol/diesel street cleaners that have brushes on the front of then, from coming around every so often and cleaning the streets, back streets included. It's like what has been said in other posts, in other threads already, people could and should take a damn sight more pride in their property at least rather then being just bone idle lazy. Bone idle lazy it what it amount to at the end of the day, it's as simple as that. |

| Hi I live in Briercliffe which is a major improvement in living standards when compared to that of Queensgate area which was once a desired area to reside, I don't live within the terraced streets anymore, I worked and saved hard and in return have a reasonable life now. Terraced houses are unfortunately the bottom of the housing stock, this has been the flagship of the BTL'rs (Buy to let market), usually if you own your property you also take pride in it and its surroundings, if you don't own you rent so maybe this is the root cause along with the governments stance on treating idiots and anti-social behaviour with 'kid gloves'. Cut backs in police funding also contribute to the down ward spiral of certain residencial areas, I can remember not too long ago as a kid bobbies always on foot, if you became mischievous they took you home by the ear and gave you a stern warning which would have marvelous results and not just sat in a car filling paperwork out on a quiet side street or racing around town aimlessly! It isn't the police at fault it's our government. |
