Default Proposed social cleansing project

Oh sorry lets not call it that, we shall call it canal corridor development.
Im just curious, is there anyone else from Brierfield that is going to be compulsary purchased either in Brierfield or for that matter anywhere else,
and what do you think about it?

Im subject to a CPO soon, as soon as Pendle council have managed to bribe enough residents to go, leaving the rest of us in what Pendle will soon call a derelict slum.

Well, it could be me over reacting, but they are kicking us all out so they can develop 3 and four bedroom houses next to the canal, for a better class of people.

Social cleansing is my name for it, its a bit like ethnic cleansing, but instead of targeting an ethnic group it targets a social group, IE: poor people in 2 up 2 downs.

I'm sorry to hear about you losing your home Madog! Will they help re-house you? The problem is that with CPO's the little people tend to suffer for profit!

I'm sad to here yet another area of heritage is being torn away for no real purpose other than profit and so called modernisation/regeneration, what aload of rubish. I believe investment in the buildings we have at present is the best way forward as this continues to provide a home for single/low income families that cannot possibly afford todays market value of better build homes like the ones in proposal for the area where Madog lives, however there is more to this story, old northern mill towns around the area of Manchester are being sought after purely for Mancunians to live outside the City, as it offers reduced costs in overall living (mainly house prices are cheaper) and commuting to and from the city is very easy and quick with the motorway links. Anyway we're all going to live in a very happy society after all these changes have been made, so they say!

If it's being redeveloped, who is it being redeveloped for?

And if your having a CPO, are you getting a good price for your property, are they giving you a relocation package also?

I never knew that this area was once called china town, before it was called Cltheroe road i know it used to be call Chambers Hill.
Lob Mill is still here, that is due to be converted into luxury flats.
The surrounding houses are to be torn down and redeveloped as 3 and 4 bedroom up market housing.

Its quite a complicated tale really. The ODPM (John (pig farmer) Prescott)
has offered Pendle 20 million if they are willing to demolish and redevelop some of there 2 up 2 downs.

Origionally it was going to be Whitefields that was to be demolished, but the people of that area have powerful friends and a lobby group, so after a public enquiry, it was decided that Whitefields should instead be renovated from serious dereliction to nice shiny, sandblasted, colour coordinated little houses.

As one counciler rather candidly admited to me, Brierfield is now the scapegoat. Pendle are desperate for this money so someone and somewhere has got to go.

When i ask the council about there rational, they say "Oh its not us, we didnt amke this decision, it was G.V.A. Grimley and Elevate East Lancs Who decided that Brierfield should be leveled"

So, its like a big exercise in indirect assault, with the ODPM hiding behind Elevate East Lancs, who hide behind the report made by GVA Grimley, with the councilers and council officers hiding behind all of them.

Accountability, pah, its a myth, its a fix, its a total rip off.
