hi, does anyone remember back lane school on cog lane.

i went to back lane youth club many years ago ...it belonged to st matthews church.

I lived there for 17 years recently & have never heard the term mentioned.

Whereabouts was it & what era?

Back Lane Junior School School was on Cog Lane just above the Gretna, about 100 yds further up Cog lane from Coal Clough Lane. It was a single-storey building built of sandstone, with a stone-flagged playground. It was probably built around 1880. I never went there, but a friend of mine attended up to the 11+ exam. It was demolished in the late 1960's as I recall. It never looked very big - I guess it would have catered for about 50 pupils.
