Question Wheelie Bins (Again!)

It looks like the council are going to fine people up to £1000 for fly tipping if black bags are found left out for collection. The numbers of these bags has increased since they introduced fortnightly collections.

The residents say they are recycling their rubbish, that the bins aren't of sufficient capacity to deal with their non-recyclable waste. The council say that they cannot go back to weekly collections, as people will revert back to not recycling their waste.

I'm sure there are lazy gits who will never recycle if they can help it, after all, looking at some people's back yards they can't even find their own bin. But larger families must struggle to keep their waste down to the level of one bins worth for two weeks. The council say they can provide help with any exess waste, bit this provision seems to be inadequate, as they are over-run with enquiries.

What the threat of a fine will do to stop this practice in effect will do is that there will be more (real) fly tipping, and people will put their bin out one morning, come home and find a pile of bin bags next to their property with a summons attatched!

Do you manage alright with fortnightly collections? I once forgot to put the bin out one week, so had to squeeze four weeks worth of rubbish into the bin before the next co9llection, will it be like this come the christmas holidays?

What's the answer? And how do we make persistant non-recyclers and fly-tippers change their ways?

I recycle since all this started and im religiously sorting everything. I compost and do everything im supposed to do BUT my bin is always full!
I have a very large garden due to being a corner house.
I have 4 lawns which in effect 4 gardens but only one standard garden bin. As ive said i do everything im supposed to do but take this week for instance which was garden bin day. It was full so i stood guard while they emptied it lol because when its heavy they dont like emptying it (they ignored it twice last year). Anyway, once it was empty i immediately filled it again with lawn cuttings that id had to put in binliners. This is week in week out and im never straight! I always have at least 3 extra wheely bin liners full in my garden somewhere. You can only compost so much!!
When you leave stuff in liners they either get attacked by cats or squirrels which isnt nice when you have to pick stuff up either stinking of cat wee or poo lol!!
On recycling day the streets are extra messy from all the paper they dont tip in the vans properly or plastic bottles blowing round the streets.
From a self centred point id like a bigger garden bin but from a more workable realistic point of view id like to see weekly collections back because its getting ridiculous the amount of litter on our streets due to all this madness!

you cant have bigger wheely bins unless you are a household of 5 or more and even then its unlikely that you'll get one!! It stinks! (no pun intended lol!)

I was told that I can't have one unless there were 6, I have 5 in the house & cannot get one.

I thkn it's all pathetic, I have asked on so many occasions for more blue tubs so that I can put the recuclable materials in & a white paper bag.
I have given up now, if I have filled my blue tub the rest goes in the bin - not my fault it's theirs.

If I could I would recycle a hell of a lot more, all the cardboard for instance, but they don't want that.

Our council is a pathetic waste of time that will not do anything unless they are going to get someone else to pay for it. We are now expected to take to the dump ourselves, all the rubbish that we are paying to have removed.

I thin a war is in order, us V them & every week they need a big load of rubbish bags arriving at the town hall. :(

I'm just glad my twin daughters aren't in nappies al the time now, I used to half fill my wheelie bin with those a week (no kidding). I've started to recycle my bottles and cans now but my bin is still full one week into the waste being collected and have usually two bin liners at the side of the bin at least, which they refuse to take. It's bloody ridiculous. The towns are going to look dreadful with loads of rubbish at the back of peoples houses. I wouldn't mind so much if my council tax wasn't such a disgraceful amount either.

Yes it's full of complaints, however the petition - how do we sign that - where is it?
Why on earth is he stopping the signing of it in a short while?
The go down to the council offices stand that's being done is on a wednesday morning, no good if we work.

Heck, we need them to campaign to get them back to weekly collections.

Exactly. Not everyone can make it down there, doesn't mean we aren't sympathetic to the cause though.

I think various shops have got those petitions but I've not come across one yet.
