Default Biggest Burnley Town Issues- Top 5

Bit of a straw poll and as the pollsters would probably say not statistical but what would you say are the biggest concerns and issues facing our great town Burnley today? Top 5 based on your postings would then form a useful platform debate in this club and others including my own site!

Many thanks :iloveyou:

I can think of a few.

Refuse collections: The poor collection of our refuse & the way that the council have ridden roughshod over us & giving us such a crap collection scheme.
We are NOT getting value for money or even what we have paid for.
The pathetic attempt at a token recycling scheme is a joke.

Liesure facilities: Lack of facilities for our youngsters and I DONT mean those that are under 5 I mean those that are over 9 & no longer want to play on swings.
Our older kids need facilites that are local, not a skateboard park on the other side of town. They need more to keep them entertained & out of trouble.

Parking: The serious lack of good affordable parking facilities.
It may be OK if you want to come shopping for a couple of hours but if you actually work in Burnley you cannot afford to or even find somewhere to park your car for the day.
It can often be preferable to go shopping to Blackburn instead of Burnley.

Now mine...

Adult entertainment: Strip bars & pole dancing... not enough clubs offering this. :D

Fishing The canal has always been a superb venue for fishing in throughout the country, Burnleys stretch is disused, neglected, polluted & full of crap.

Where do I start?

We need industry to come back to Burnley, jobs that are not going to end up being done overseas by a cheaper workforce at the drop of a hat. Unfortunatly this problem isn't just confined to Burnley, it's happening in all of our industrial towns.

Demolishing all our schools in order to build new ones does not seem a sensible way of doing things. What happened to the 'centres of excellence'? Another abandoned scheme, I didn't like the idea in the first place, but what happens when they find that the 'intergrated' schools system fails?

Seeing as they are determined to knock down swathes of houses across our town, this should be seen as an opportunity to build innovative, energy-saving housing that first-time buyers can afford. Rather than semi's with garages you can't fit a car in squeezed onto those silly winding roads.

Burnley College should get a fair share of the money going into the 6th form colleges in the near future.

Why do we have to destroy a popular row of small businesses to accomodate a new shopping arcade? Not so that those businesses have to move into said new development at inflated rent surely?

Seeing as they can't even run a refuse/recycling scheme effectivly, I don't hold much hope for the above to be handled any differently.

In cliviger (where I live) There is one of those old shut down public toilets.

We set up an agreement with the local conservative candidate that if we delivered all his leaflets around burnley, he would get us these toilets (sounds stupid, let me explain)

We are planning on nocking all the inside walls out ( obvioulsy then ensuring its safe) then replastering all the walls, Nocking through (boys toilets to girls) and so inside will be quite large.

It will be thoroughly cleaned, walls plastered and then graffitied to our liking :D (inside)

Im sure everybody will agree that this is a great idea and will certainly keep us lot out of trouble!! Well be getting a few couch's, carpet and portable boombox :D

I have no idea wether he will be able to do this or not (let me know if you think it would be possible) but if it did go ahead it would be superb and prehaps encourage the council to do something will all the other unused buildings!!

(we got paid for delivering the leaflets aswell :D)

Thanks,

PC

Drugs - the fact that they hide this problem, and they called the drug related violence, race riots, suggests to me this is a problem they don't want to tackle.
