A BOGUS thief stole £200 from an elderly couple after pretending to be from the water board.
The thief called at the house in Mellor Close, Burnley, and barged past the couple, both in their 80s, saying there was a problem with their water supply.
He entered the house under the pretence of checking the pipes and after he had left the couple noticed £200 was missing.
The crime took place at 2-20 p.m. yesterday. The thief is described as around 5ft. 9in. tall, stocky, in his late 20s, tanned or mixed race and spoke very quickly.
A witness also saw two other men acting suspiciously in the street, who were slim, in their 20s and dressed in smart casual clothes.
The offender took off in a white Ford Transit van in the direction of Manchester Road.
Witnesses - or anyone who knows anything about the crime - are urged to come forward. Call Det. Sgt Dave Fleming at Burnley police on 425001 or Crimestoppers.
