DETECTIVES are appealing for information after an armed robbery at Humberstones Jewellers, Barrowford this morning.
At approximately 10:45am, four masked men forced their way into Humberstones Jewellery Store on Gisburn Rd. The men were wearing dark grey clothing and were believed to be armed with sledgehammers.
Display cabinets were smashed and a substantial amount of jewellery has been stolen. The four offenders made off in a silver Ford Focus and it is believed that there may have been a fifth offender waiting in the car. This Focus was then abandoned in Oaklands Avenue, near to the scene. Police are appealing for anybody to come forward if they noticed any suspicious behaviour at around 10:50am in the Oaklands Avenue area. It is believed at this point that the offenders have got into another vehicle to make their getaway.
Detective Inspector Derek Jones of Nelson Police said: “Although nobody was injured during the robbery, three members of staff were understandably left shaken. If anybody was in the area at the time of the robbery or has seen any suspicious behaviour in the Oaklands Avenue area, please let us know”.
