Exclamation Face being fined - Moseley Road in Burnley

Quote:
POLICE have issued more than 70 fines to motorists using a rat-run - but warned that a long-term solution needs to be found.

Officers say that motorists are continuing to use Moseley Road in Burnley as a short cut despite them putting extra measures in place.

The road, between Burnley Wood and Rosehill, is restricted to access only but motorists are ignoring clear signs and the police enforcement activity.

At a public meeting called by the police and Burnley's Multi Agency Problem Solving Team (MAPs), Community Beat Manager PC John Fisher said that around 70 fixed penalty fines had been issued over the last year. He said another way of tackling the problem had to be found.

PC Fisher said: "We're continually monitoring the road and issuing dozens of fines every month but as soon as we turn our backs to deal with other issues, people are speeding through again.

Is there a real good way to stop people from using the route? Unless you have people patrolling 24/7 it's still going to be used. The only solution would be to block it off or have access barriers perhaps?

Used to use that road as a 'hillclimb' route for a bit of fun...never got up to any great speeds though.

You can't block it off though because people need to get in and out - unless they want to foot the bill for some kind of electronic barrier.

If it's just the speeds people are going that is the issue, cameras would seem the best option...although with it being a twisty road there might be technical issues that prevent that.

you pay road tax,

you should be able to use the road,

is there any reason why they don't make it one way?

I think the speeds might go up if it was made one way as you're less likely to have something coming in the opposite direction round the next blind bend

...good point about road tax though.
