Just a thought.

Over the last four days I have sat here and listened to the whizzes, whooshes and thunderous bangs of the fireworks.
I was just wondering just how much money has been spent on these short lived pyrotechnics.
I think it must run into the hundreds of thousands of pounds.....these things aren't cheap.
I have also listened to the sound of the 'nee-naws'....which I take to be fire engines, or maybe ambulances......and got to wondering how much extra work we place on the shoulders of these essential services....just so that we can enjoy the pretty lights.
While personally, I think it is a huge waste of money and effort. I would not presume to tell anyone how they should spend their hard earned cash......and we all need a bit of frivolity and fun in our lives.
I got to thinking how, if the money that has been spent on fireworks, could have been spent on Cancer Research, or Macmillan services......wouldn't it make a difference to a lot of lives? If only a few pence from each sale could be diverted to a worthy cause....well, what a difference the bright lights would make......they would truly illuminate the lives of families suffering and in need.
Just a thought.

I have seen hundreds and hundreds of pounds go up in smoke over the last few days (that is only when I have gone to the back for a ciggie) and it makes me wonder if folk have to much money. Personally I think there should only be organised displays allowed thus lessening the effect on the emergency services. It is an idea worth pondering to get some money from the sales to help alleviate suffering.Posted 05-11-07 at 22:34 by bernie
