The Pantomime.

Posted 09-12-07 at 20:39 by Magpi 47
It is tiddlers birthday on Wednesday, and as part of his treats, I decided he might like to go to the Pantomime.
Whilst he has been going to pre-school they have been taking him to Story time at the library, and he has been very good for that.....I just wasn't sure if he would sit still for a 2 and a half hour session.
Anyway, thought I would risk it. I got tickets for his Ma and me as well.
He has been counting down since I got the tickets, so he had built up a fair level of excitement.
During the morning he kept on asking his Mum if it was time to go yet......?
'No, it will be time to go when Margaret comes across for us'.......she said that she got sick of this refrain, and was glad to see me just after one o clock......the lad ran to get his jacket from under the stairs.....he couldn't wait. His sister was bawling her head off....she wanted to come too.
Daughter patiently explained that she was too young this year....maybe next year.
Tiddler said 'you are only a baby, this is for big boys and girls'......at this she wailed harder......and lashed out saying she wasn't a baby.....he said 'You must be a baby....you still have a dodi(dummy)'.......so she flung her dummy down in disgust.

We got into the car and drove over to the Civic Theatre......tiddler wanted to look at the tickets....so I showed him.
He was awestruck when we went up the stairs and into the auditorium......we were about to take our seats when he noticed the stall selling event lights.......the light sabres and things like windmills with lights on.....fairy wands with stars at the top....there were all manner of things....and of course he wanted one.......so he chose a light sabre.....and we couldn't buy him one without buying one for Miss droopy drawers too....she got one like a fairy wand with a star on the top.......I bought one for me too.
Well, you know that Magpies like sparkly coloured things.....that is me!

The show was wonderful. Tiddler loved the fact that he could shout out.....that he could boo and hiss at the villain......and cheer when the fairy came on.....he thought it even more fun that I could put four fingers in my mouth a emit a high pitched whistle........'Cooool' I think was what he called it.
He sang along and danced and waved his light sabre....it was lovely to see him enter into the spirit of the story. I thought he might just be a bit frightened of the giant, but NO....he realises it is all pretence.
We sang about Wiggly Worm......a song i have been singing to him since he was a baby....they wanted children to go up on stage to sing it.
He wanted desperately to get up on stage and sing with some of the other children, but we were too far back, for him to be seen with his hand waving furiously, to be picked out.

I took along some bagel bites, a drink of apple juice and some fruit jellies.....he thought it was like a picnic....but he still wanted an ice cream....but there was a big queue, so we gave up on that and lied to him....saying they had sold out. He wasn't impressed!

All too soon the show was over and we were putting our coats on and heading out into the dark street.....he wanted to know if we could watch it all over again.
So I guess that means he enjoyed it.
We stood in the street with him waving his light sabre waiting for his daddy to come and pick us up.
Miss droopy drawers loved her magic wand too. Yes, she did......Oh no she didn't.....oh yes she did! Panto - it's catching.
Go and see it.....good family fun.
