This time next week.....

This time next week, I should be in North Devon. Woolacombe Bay to be precise.
My daughter and her husband have asked me to share their family holiday with them.
They don't ask me along so that I can be an unpaid babysitter, because in the evenings we sit around and talk and maybe have a glass of wine before retiring to bed.
The children are three and a half and two years old.......so an extra adult is helpful during the day and at mealtimes.
Invariably the children wake up early....it does seem to get light earlier down in Devon...and they are raring to go.
We went to Woolacombe Bay last year, and the three year old is really looking forward to going to the beach and digging in the sand....he also wants to ride on the yellow bus which goes between the different holiday complexes.......and is also looking forward to a ride on the old fashioned roundabout which is usually on the front at Ilfracombe.
My enjoyment is enhanced by seeing them enjoy the simple things of the holiday....playing on the beach with a kite (well, to be honest, that was more fun for Daddy)....bringing buckets of water from the sea to fill up the moat around the sandcastle.........to find that it all just disappears in the sand.
We overdose on fresh air and if the weather is fine we will sit in front of the apartment and have our roast chicken salad alfresco....sharing the bread with the ducks.
Isn't it a shame that these days can't last forever? But then again, I suppose they will in the memories of the children.
