There are a few deserted towns in the uk actually, many are long gone back in history, but a few are famous, usually because the mod decided to use the surrounding area as a practice area, ember is one near westbury.
Then there's villages that have been sunk under water when building reservoirs, Derwent and Ashopton in Derbyshire are two.

I do remember mention of the Australia 'Burnley' but not one in canada.
I wonder what the older generation in Burnley think now that the Council have allowed developers to build both the Oval centre and the st peters health & leisure centre over the river Brun?
'Brun Lea' as Burnley was once named is a lovely name, but can anyone tell me who or WHY the name was changed to Burnley?
