Default Re: Champions League 2005-2006

Interesting Jasey, with the exception of group F where Lyon have qualified and Olympiakos have yet to pick a point up you can still be correct with every other selection.

As things are:

Group A:
Juve and Bayern looking good.
Club Bruges next but still have Juve (away) and Bayern (home to play) while both Juve and Bayern still have to play bottom of the group Rapid Vienna.

Group B:
Arsenal already through and Ajax looking good
Ajax are 4pts clear of third placed Thun and still have bottom placed Sparta Prague to play at home.

Group C:
Barcelona already through. Panathanaikos, Werder Bremen and Udinese all joint 2nd place with 4 pts each. Bremen and Udinese still have to play Barcelona but will Barca play a full strength team in those games? Werder Bremen v. Panathanaikos in Germany in the last round of games may well decide who qualifies from this group.

Group D:
The surprise in this group is that Benfica and Manchester United are bottom and 2nd bottom, Villareal topping the group with Lille in 2nd place. Closest group of the lot with all 4 teams still in with a qualifying chance. Also the lowest scoring group with only 8 goals being scored in the 8 games played. Benfica v. Manchester United in the last round of games could be really interesting.

Group E:
Another close group with PSV on 7 pts with AC Milan and Schalke 04 on 5pts. Fenerbache bottom with 4 pts. Schalke and Fenerbache still have to play both PSV and AC Milan. PSV and Milan must be favourites to qualify from here.

Group F:
Real Madrid and Lyon through.

Group G:
If Liverpool take just a point from their next home game (against Real Betis) then they will go through. Chelsea seem to be having difficulties winning games away from home in European competition but fortunately for them their last away tie in this group is at bottom placed Anderlecht who have yet to pick a single point up.

Group H:
Inter Milan all but through. Artmedia Bratislava (what sort of a name is that?) and Rangers on 5 pts with Porto on 3 pts. Porto don’t have to face Inter again though.
Any one of those 3 can go through with Inter.
