Re: back lane school Back Lane Junior School School was on Cog Lane just above the Gretna, about 100 yds further up Cog lane from Coal Clough Lane. It was a single-storey building built of sandstone, with a stone-flagged playground. It was probably built around 1880. I never went there, but a friend of mine attended up to the 11+ exam. It was demolished in the late 1960's as I recall. It never looked very big - I guess it would have catered for about 50 pupils. |
