What upset me most over the weekend was to hear that in past disasters, governments who have promised money in the beginning fail to make good on their promises.
I too feel that political points are being made rather than the real concern ordinary folk feel about the disaster. But Waneyboy is right and people soon forget as we have seen in other areas of the world where there is famine and genocide still today.
I feel the only way forward is for a firm commitment and a fund set up by the G8 countries and the UN, that could be activated immediately in times of crisis. Each member country of the two organisations should have to put a sum of money in the pot each year so a good amount is available. |
