Default MP3 Players

Not entirley belonging to the computer section but hey ho. I recently bought an "ipod shuffle" with the intention of having something I can plug in, download and away we go. How foolish I was to think that apple would let me have it so easy!
Not only do you have to have the product you have to download their special "itunes" programme so that your computer recognises it. 4 hours later I managed to disable the programmes that were interfering with "itunes" and got it working which wouldn't have been a problem but you have to do it every time you want to change the music on it. Needless to say Argos now have it back.

Does anybody know if the standard MP3 players make you go through all these hoops and stuff or are they nice and easy??
Cheers.
