My eldest daughter was born with a thick head of hair too and didn't lose any. It did dramatically change colour overnight when she was a few months old though and then she ended up with blond hair which had about an inch of dark brown at the ends! Looked really odd and people thought I had dyed it.
My youngest daughter was born bald and remained so for months.
