Default Lancashire on terror alert: police chief's advice

SECURITY arrangements across Lancashire - including Burnley, Pendle and the Ribble Valley - have been stepped up to "critical".

Assistant Chief Constable Mike Cunningham, said: "Following the recent incidents in London and Glasgow and the raising of the UK threat level to 'critical', police officers from Lancashire Constabulary will be providing high visibility policing particularly in areas where there are large numbers of people.

"There is no information that suggests Lancashire is a specific target or is under any threat. This
policing activity is being undertaken to ensure the public at large are kept safe - this is our utmost priority.

"Security at Blackpool Airport has been increased in response to the incident on Saturday at Glasgow International Airport. There is no information that would indicate Blackpool Airport is a direct target and these measures are precautionary. We would ask that people are patient with any delays as a result of extra security.

"Extra police officers, some armed, are on patrol at the airport and members of the public will not be allowed to drive up to the front of the building. These arrangements will remain in place for the foreseeable future.

"We need our communities to help defeat terrorism. We need all our communities to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour to their local police on 0845 1 25 35 45, or by calling the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789321."
