AN INVESTIGATION has been launched today into the death of a man taken to Burnley Police Station following a "violent struggle" with officers.
Reports indicate that police were called to Halifax Road, Brierfield, around 8-50 a.m. to deal with several complaints by locals who were concerned that a man was damaging vehicles in the area.
It is believed that a number of officers rushed to the scene and a man was arrested following what police have described as "a violent struggle".
Tha man - who has not been named - was taken to Burnley Police Station following the incident, but police have reported that he became ill a short time later and was then taken to Burnley General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10-30 a.m..
A post mortem examination to try to ascertain the cause of death was to be carried out today.
A police spokesman has said no details of today's happenings could be released as the matter was now in the hands of the Independent Police Complaints Commission to carry out an investigation.
